
All in all, I highly recommend this picture book because it is an endearing true family story that narrates the true story that inspired the creation of the most beloved bear in the world. At the end of the book, an album of copies of real-life artifacts that were passed down to the author is provided so as to tell the true story which inspired the Winnie-the-Pooh series. In addition to this, the book presents pictorial evidence that makes the story come even more alive. The detailed and realistic illustrations are necessary since the story is based on real-life stories. Each page is a masterpiece on its own because minor details are not overlooked and the shading and color blends used to paint the illustrations create realistic pictures, thus allowing the reader to experience the story at a higher level. The detailed backgrounds and landscapes are lively and captivating.

The beautifully detailed illustrations in the book not only complement the story but also, add to the story. In the end, readers are left with a sense of gratification when the story reaches a satisfying resolution, which is that Winnie’s joyful interactions with Christopher Robin inspired the inception of the well-known series starring Winnie-the-Pooh. During the climax of the plot, readers cannot help but feel Harry’s sadness when he reluctantly leaves Winnie in the London Zoo. Although the setting of the story changes from White River, Canada to London, England, the setting is realistic and consistent with the travels of World War I soldiers. As the story progresses, Winnie, the bear, captivates readers’ hearts just as Winnie does with the soldiers and all those who interact with her. Likewise, people’s reactions in the story toward the friendly and loveable bear are believable and expected. In regards to the character Winnie, her behaviors and actions in the story are consistent with those experienced by other bears such as, the eating, climbing, and sleeping.

While housed in the London Zoo, a young boy named Christopher Robin Milne visits and plays with Winnie and later names his stuffed teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh. But when wartime approaches, Harry takes Winnie to the London Zoo. He takes Winnie along with him during World War I. The family story begins in 1914 when Harry Colebourn purchases a baby bear and names her Winnie, in honor of his hometown Winnipeg.
